What is alliteration?

Alliteration (fr. allitération, from Lat. ad+littera = "letter", "repetition of the same letter") is a phonological (sound) level figure of speech consisting of the repetition of consonants or syllables at the beginning or within words in a statement or in a verse.
The figure has a euphonic, imitative (onomatopoeic) or expressive (symbolic) effect and is the result of the affective accent that the repeated sounds carry.
